NESREA Joins Forces to Tackle Lead Pollution in Ogun State Community

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has joined a multi-stakeholder engagement to address concerns over lead pollution linked to industrial activities in Ogijo, Ogun State.

The engagement, which brought together government agencies, regulators, industry representatives, community leaders, and experts, emphasized the need for sustained collaboration to address environmental risks and promote sustainable industrial practices.

Representing NESREA’s Director General, Prof. Innocent Barikor, was the Director, South West Zone, Mr. Peniel Jack.

The meeting, attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment in Ogun State, Mr. Ola Oresanya, and the Ologijo of Ogijo, Oba Kazeem Kashimawo Olaonipekun Gbadamosi, aimed to tackle the pressing issue of lead pollution, particularly from used lead-acid battery recycling. Stakeholders stressed the importance of working together to mitigate environmental risks and ensure sustainable development in Ogijo and beyond.

NESREA is committed to enforcing environmental standards and regulations in Nigeria. The agency has been working with stakeholders to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable practices across the country. The Ogijo engagement is part of efforts to tackle lead pollution and ensure a healthier environment for communities.
