The 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2026) has concluded in Abuja, Nigeria, with a call for the construction of a world-class energy centre in the country.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) made the appeal during his closing remarks at the summit, which was held from February 2-5, 2026.

The summit, themed “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future,” brought together policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and experts to discuss energy security, affordable access, and the transition to cleaner energy systems.

The Minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to energy sector transformation, and appreciated the participation of African leaders, including President Adama Barrow of The Gambia and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea.

The proposed energy centre aims to position Nigeria as a hub for global energy dialogue, with the government planning to engage industry players on the project’s implementation.

The facility, according to Lokpobiri, will be industry-owned, privately built, and managed by world-class operators to ensure sustainability and adherence to global standards.

Dr. James Shindi, Project Director, NIES/CEO Brevity Anderson, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, sponsors, and participants for making the summit a success.

“I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this summit, especially the Ministers of Petroleum Resources, for their unwavering support and guidance,” he said.
Speaking further, shindi lauded his staff as one of the best.

“I also appreciate the efforts of our team, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a success.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Patience Oyekunle, highlighted the significance of the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2026) in her closing remarks. She noted that the summit was “timely and strategic” given Nigeria’s growing influence in regional and global energy discussions. The event brought together policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and development partners to advance energy security, inclusive access, and cleaner energy systems.

Mrs. Oyekunle also emphasized Nigeria’s role in the global energy ecosystem, citing the presence of African leaders, industry executives, and development partners at the summit. The event showcased Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging its oil and gas resources to drive industrialization, energy security, and economic growth.

The summit saw strong participation from Nigerian companies, with many attending international events and exhibitions. The organisers hope that the next summit will showcase progress in job creation, revenue generation, and value addition to the sector.

The proposed world-class energy centre is expected to attract international investments, create jobs, and drive economic growth. Industry stakeholders are optimistic about the project’s potential, citing Nigeria’s strategic location and abundant energy resources.

The next NIES is expected to build on the momentum of this year’s achievements, with a focus on implementation and tangible progress. As Nigeria continues to navigate the energy transition, the country remains committed to its energy security and prosperity goals.
