The Federal Republic of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the Gulf region and the risk of further escalation, which could have grave consequences for regional and global stability.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions that could intensify hostilities, prioritizing dialogue over confrontation.
The statement emphasizes the importance of strict adherence to the United Nations Charter and the Geneva Convention, particularly regarding respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful settlement of disputes.
Nigeria stresses the need for restraint in the use of lethal force to prevent further civilian casualties and avoid actions that could undermine international law. The country supports renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis and welcomes initiatives aimed at confidence-building, mediation, and dialogue.
Nigeria stands in solidarity with the international community in calling for calm and remains committed to securing sustainable peace through diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.
The country’s call for de-escalation and restraint is in line with its policy of promoting peaceful conflict resolution and respect for international law.
The international community has welcomed Nigeria’s stance, with several countries and organizations expressing support for the country’s efforts. Efforts are underway to convene an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss the situation and come up with a unified response.
