The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to campus security, when he hosted the Commanding Officer of 21 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Godiya Solomon Monday, to discuss security measures and strengthen collaboration to ensure a safe learning environment in the university community.
Prof. Usman emphasized that security remains a top priority, citing initiatives like a visibility study to identify “flash areas” where crimes and security breaches occur.
He commended the Nigerian Army for maintaining safety within the town and on campus, emphasizing that security remains a top priority of his administration. He disclosed that the university has taken steps to mitigate security risks, including a ban on “sign-out celebrations” within the campus, while Final Year Brethren Week celebrations continue under regulations.
Speaking further, the VC stressed the importance of fostering a strong relationship between the university and the military to eradicate cultism and social vices in the university.
“No compromise will be made on security matters. We are determined to provide a secure atmosphere for learning and research and to protect the welfare of our staff and students,” he stated.

Lt. Col. Godiya Solomon Monday, in his remarks, assured the Vice-Chancellor of the battalion’s commitment to safeguarding the university community, citing ongoing improvements being undertaken to enhance security infrastructure and operational readiness.
“We are doing our best to ensure that the university environment remains safe for everyone. With coordinated efforts and regular engagement with the university management, incidents of crime and cult-related activities can be effectively curtailed,” he said.
The meeting culminated in a mutual agreement between the parties to sustain their collaborative efforts and support, reinforcing their dedication to fostering a secure environment conducive to academic, administrative, and social activities on the PAAU campus.
Attendees included key university officials: Prof. J.J. Orugun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration); Prof. Ojah Paul Egwemi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Barr. Yahaya S. Alilu, Registrar; and Dr. Oladimeji Yemi-Peters, University Librarian.
