PDP Ogugu Candidate Meets Legal Elders, Secures Backing Ahead of 2027 Assembly Poll

Michael Samuel Idoko presents Certificate of Return to SANs Onoja, Ebute and Ibrahim, says legal mentorship will shape his legislative agenda in Kogi Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Ogugu State Constituency in the 2027 Kogi State House of Assembly election, Michael Samuel Idoko, has received the endorsement of senior legal practitioners from the constituency as he formally begins his campaign.

Idoko on Monday presented his Certificate of Return and INEC Nomination Forms to High Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, in Ogugu, seeking the senior lawyer’s blessings ahead of the polls.

The meeting also had in attendance other eminent legal figures from Ogugu land, including Barrister Moses Ebute, SAN, Barrister George Ibrahim, SAN, and Barrister Idenyi Peter.

“Leadership is not about power but about responsibility, sacrifice, and accountability to the people.”
— Michael Samuel Idoko, PDP Candidate, Ogugu State Constituency

Speaking after the engagement, Idoko said the presence of the Senior Advocates reinforced his commitment to “integrity, accountability and law-driven representation” in the Kogi Assembly.

He described the elders’ counsel and prayers as “a guiding light” for his aspiration, adding that their support would shape his approach to legislation and constituency service if elected.

Onoja received the documents on behalf of the legal delegation. The candidate said the elders offered “words of encouragement, wealth of experience and sincere prayers.”

The engagement marks one of the first high-profile consultations by an Ogugu State Constituency aspirant ahead of the 2027 election scheduled by INEC for early that year.

Ogugu, in Olamaboro Local Government Area, is one of the 25 state constituencies in Kogi. Idoko said his campaign would prioritise “courage, transparency, accessibility, and an unwavering commitment to delivering quality legislation and purposeful representation.”

He pledged not to “disappoint the confidence” reposed in him by constituents, and promised to work toward “unity, progress and shared prosperity” in Ogugu.

The PDP is seeking to reclaim and retain several seats in the Kogi Assembly in 2027, with candidate consultations and constituency engagements expected to intensify in the coming months.
