Being Human Foundation for the Less Privileged and DAM Foundation Empower Vulnerable Communities with Solar Energy

By Hassan Hussain | March 17, 2026

The Being Human Foundation for the Less Privileged, in collaboration with the DAM Foundation, has distributed multifunctional solar home systems to vulnerable communities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The initiative, an extension of the foundation’s first anniversary celebration, aims to provide sustainable energy access to underserved communities. Over 200 solar home systems were distributed to market women, petty traders, POS operators, and households without electricity.

The founder of Being Human Foundation, Engr. Dr. Amb Khadijah Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing energy challenges.

“The government alone can not solve all societal challenges, hence the need for individuals and organisations to contribute their quota toward national development,” she said.

This partnership highlights the role of private humanitarian organizations in complementing government efforts. Solar systems will provide sustainable power for homes and small businesses, improving livelihoods and economic productivity.

Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, Chairman of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, fulfilled his pledge to donate 300 solar home systems, demonstrating commitment to empowering vulnerable communities.

“The initiative aligns with the national development vision of Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which encourages inclusive growth, empowerment of citizens, and innovative solutions to socio-economic challenges,” organizers said.

Bashiru Usman, Head of Administration in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, applauded the Energy Commission of Nigeria and partner organisations for their contributions.

“Nigeria’s vast territorial size and large population require collaborative efforts beyond government intervention alone,” he said.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that solar-powered assistance has improved access to electricity, making daily activities easier and more productive.

“The intervention has brought relief to many households and small businesses that previously struggled with unreliable power supply,” one beneficiary said.

The Being Human Foundation’s vision is to create an inclusive society where underprivileged individuals have access to basic necessities and live with dignity and hope, focusing on humanitarian interventions in energy, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.

The foundation has achieved partial distribution of 500 solar panels, with the remaining units fulfilled by Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha’s DAM Foundation. The total systems distributed now stand at 500 solar power systems, benefiting vulnerable households, indigent families, widows, and female-headed households in locations with limited grid access.

The initiative addresses pressing social issues, including energy poverty, food insecurity, human trafficking, and educational and health gaps in underserved communities. Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha’s commitment to empowering vulnerable communities has been demonstrated through the fulfilment of his pledge.

Engr. Dr. Amb Khadijah Ibrahim called on well-meaning Nigerians to complement government efforts in addressing energy challenges and improving living conditions. “Helping others does not always require huge financial resources,” she said, encouraging Nigerians to cultivate a habit of supporting one another.

The Head of Administration stressed that sustained collaboration among government, private organisations, and citizens remains vital in advancing development and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

The Being Human Foundation’s strategic partnership with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) aims to expand solar projects and achieve universal electricity access by 2030.

The partnership, dubbed “Powering Hope,” positions ECN as a technical and advisory partner, led by Director General Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha. The initiative has received support from various stakeholders, including Dr. Hasia based in Scotland, who contributed to the programme’s success.

Beneficiaries of the solar home systems have expressed gratitude, noting significant improvements in their daily lives. “The solar-powered assistance has helped improve access to electricity, making daily activities easier and more productive,” said one beneficiary.

The Being Human Foundation’s efforts have been praised by stakeholders, who commend the organisation’s focus on sustainable solutions. “Rather than empowering a large number of people with items that may not last, the foundation decided to focus on providing fewer beneficiaries with sustainable solutions such as solar power systems,” said Engr. Dr. Amb Khadijah Ibrahim.

The foundation plans to continue its humanitarian intervention, with support from partners and donors, targeting vulnerable groups and underserved communities.
