CAC Resolve 20-Year KPMG Dispute: A New Era for Corporate Dispute Resolution

By Danjuma Amodu | February 19, 2026

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has successfully resolved a 20-year dispute between KPMG Professional Services and KPMG Nigeria through its Administrative Proceedings Committee (APC).

The dispute, which had been ongoing since 2006, was settled amicably, with both parties agreeing to withdraw all pending court cases. The CAC’s intervention marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s corporate dispute resolution landscape, demonstrating the effectiveness of the APC in resolving disputes efficiently.

Established under Section 851 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the APC provides an alternative to lengthy court proceedings, promoting a culture of compliance and transparency.

The dispute between KPMG Professional Services and KPMG Nigeria had been a major talking point in the corporate world, with implications for the accounting and auditing profession.

The CAC’s resolution of the dispute is expected to have far-reaching implications, encouraging the use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and promoting a culture of compliance with corporate laws.

The APC’s success in resolving the KPMG dispute marks a new era for corporate dispute resolution in Nigeria, where disputes can be resolved quickly and efficiently, without the need for protracted court battles.

This development is expected to boost investor confidence and promote business growth in Nigeria.
