Gabaidu Sani AbdulMalik Steps Down from 2027 Olamaboro Assembly Race, Defects to APC

By Danjuma Amodu

Hon. Gabaidu Sani AbdulMalik, the Labour Party’s 2023 candidate for Olamaboro State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has withdrawn from the 2027 race and announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement issued on Friday, AbdulMalik said the decision came after extensive consultations with his family, political allies, stakeholders, and supporters, and followed “a period of sober reflection on the current political realities and the future we all desire.”

He said the move was “neither borne out of fear nor a lack of readiness to serve, but rather from a position of strength, clarity, and a broader strategic vision for our people.”

“Leadership is not only about occupying office, it is about making timely, thoughtful decisions that best advance the collective interest of the people we serve,” he stated.

AbdulMalik acknowledged the “overwhelming and passionate call” from supporters urging him to contest in 2027, saying their trust, confidence and belief in his capacity to serve remained “one of the greatest honours of my public life.”

He assured supporters that their loyalty, encouragement and steadfast support had not gone unnoticed, adding that the decision was not an end but “a strategic repositioning for a greater cause and a bigger future ahead.”

“Our focus remains clear: building a stronger, more united, and forward-looking political movement that represents the voice of our people,” he said.

Announcing his defection to the APC, AbdulMalik said he would join forces with other leaders and stakeholders to pursue the developmental agenda of Olamaboro Local Government.

“Together, we remain resolute. Together, we will rise. Together, we will achieve more,” he said, thanking supporters and asking for God’s blessings on them all.
