The National Park Service (NPS) has celebrated the retirement of veteran Conservator of Parks, Adamu Musa Askira, after years of dedicated service to the conservation of Nigeria’s natural heritage.
Askira, who retired as a Conservator of Parks (fsi), was honoured at a farewell ceremony held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Speaking at the event, the Conservator-General, Dr. Ibrahim Musa Goni, commended Askira for his commitment and extensive field experience garnered during his assignments in Gashaka-Gumti, Old Oyo and Kamuku National Parks, as well as his last posting as Desk Officer of the NPS at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Goni, who spoke on behalf of the NPS Governing Board and Management, encouraged the retiring officer to continue sharing his wealth of experience with younger officers and remain available to offer guidance on conservation and park management.
In his goodwill message, the Assistant Conservator-General (Finance and Administration), Inwon Fingesi, described Askira as a dependable colleague whose professional contributions would be fondly remembered by officers of the Service. He wished him good health, peace and fulfilment in retirement.
Other colleagues at the ceremony also eulogised Askira, recalling his contributions to the Service and wishing him well in retirement.
In his response, Askira thanked the leadership and staff of the Park Service for the support he received throughout his career, noting that his years in service gave him valuable experience, knowledge, exposure and lasting relationships. He pledged to remain committed to the ideals of conservation even in retirement.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a Certificate of Service to Askira by the Conservator-General, Dr. Goni, in recognition of his meritorious service to the National Park Service.
