Lawmaker says “Our Security, Our Duty” forum will generate practical solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Karimi, has described the forthcoming National Security Stakeholders’ Forum with the theme “Our Security, Our Duty” as a critical platform for generating practical solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja ahead of the event organized by Project 774 Network, the lawmaker said security remains the primary responsibility of government, stressing that the protection of lives and property is fundamental to national development.
He noted that the forum will bring together government officials, traditional rulers, civil society organizations and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for tackling insecurity through collective action and sustained dialogue.
The Senator said the Tinubu administration has taken significant steps to strengthen national security by improving the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and introducing initiatives such as the Forest Guard to enhance security across the country.
On legislative interventions, the lawmaker disclosed that the Senate recently concluded a security summit and is finalizing a comprehensive report that will serve as a blueprint for addressing the country’s security challenges.
He also revealed that the National Assembly has concluded legislative work on the proposed establishment of state police, adding that the measure has been forwarded to the Executive for necessary action.
According to him, the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to deepen community-based policing while ensuring adequate legal safeguards against possible abuse.
The Senator explained that recommendations from the Project 774 Network stakeholders’ engagement would complement the National Assembly’s ongoing efforts to develop lasting solutions to insecurity.
He urged Nigerians to support government initiatives aimed at restoring peace across the country, noting that insecurity has evolved over several years and requires the collective commitment of all citizens to overcome.
The National Security Stakeholders’ Forum is expected to provide a platform for robust engagement among key actors, with recommendations from the dialogue set to contribute to the nation’s emerging security policy framework.
Also speaking, the Director of Communications, Project 774 Network, Mr. Agbonson Remi, called on Nigerians to take greater responsibility in supporting efforts to tackle insecurity, saying security is a collective duty that requires the active participation of every citizen.

Mr. Remi said the theme, “Our Security, Our Duty,” is designed to remind Nigerians that safeguarding lives and property is everyone’s responsibility, regardless of location, occupation or social status.
He stressed that criminal elements are not strangers but often live within communities, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and volunteer credible information to security agencies.
According to him, government at all levels must strengthen public confidence in security institutions by creating an environment where citizens can freely provide intelligence without fear.
The Project 774 Communications Director maintained that insecurity cannot be addressed by government alone, adding that civil society organizations are complementing official efforts through public enlightenment and community mobilization.
Expressing optimism that Nigeria would overcome terrorism and other security challenges, Mr. Remi said the collective resolve of Nigerians would defeat criminality if citizens united behind the nation’s security agencies.
He lamented that insecurity has disrupted farming, business activities, road travel and cultural festivals across parts of the country, but expressed confidence that improved collaboration between government, security agencies and the public would restore peace.
Mr. Remi also called for prudent utilization of security funds and stronger grassroots governance to enhance security operations nationwide.
He commended members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in defending the country, assuring them that Nigerians appreciate their courage and dedication.
Mr. Remi expressed sympathy to the families of security personnel who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, saying their service and commitment to the nation would never be forgotten.
