Wike Pledges FCT University Take-Off Under Tinubu, Thanks Residents for Poll Support

By Danjuma Amodu | March 10, 2026

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abaji that the FCT University of Science and Technology, approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2017 and passed by the Senate in 2018, will begin operations under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike made this pledge during a visit to Abaji, where he expressed gratitude to residents for supporting Tinubu’s candidates in the February 21 FCT area council elections.

The FCT Administration is developing infrastructure and critical facilities required for the university’s take-off, which aims to cater to the technological needs of the FCT and its environs.

Wike urged residents to remain patient, stressing that Tinubu would ensure the university becomes a reality within his tenure.

“The university is important not only to Abaji people but to all FCT residents. It will create jobs and stimulate development in Abaji,” he said.

He emphasized that the project is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to expand economic opportunities in satellite communities. Wike thanked residents for delivering 133 of 135 polling units to Tinubu, saying, “You have done your part, we will do ours too.”

Wike also promised to address gully erosion, reactivate an abandoned road, and construct the Gurara Market bridge.

Abubakar Abdullahi, outgoing Abaji Area Council Chairman, praised Wike’s efforts, saying Abaji has witnessed rapid development since his appointment. The APC won all 10 wards in the council due to projects executed by Tinubu through Wike.

Wike described Abdullahi as a humble leader and pledged to continue supporting the community despite their political backing. He emphasized that politics is a game of give and take, and leaders must deliver good governance.

The visit was part of Wike’s efforts to thank residents for their support and to showcase the progress made in the FCT under Tinubu’s administration.
