2027 elections; Goni warns officers wives against spiteful utterances

The Conservator-General of the National Park Service, NPS, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, has cautioned wives of park officers against making spiteful utterances or engaging in partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Goni issued the warning on Wednesday in Abuja when the National Park Officers Wives Association, NPOWA, paid him a courtesy visit.

He advised the women not to openly criticise government policies, saying such actions could stall government operations.

“Vote wisely during the 2027 elections by not being partisan. Be mindful that you are not politicians but wives of paramilitary officers,” Goni said.

The C-G urged them to uphold their husbands’ dignity, noting that their membership in the association was tied to their spouses’ service.

“They are giving you support, paying for your accommodation and additional welfare so that you are comfortable to attend this meeting,” he added.

Dr. Goni commended NPOWA for its initiative, stating that although the NPS had existed for over 40 years, this was the first time the association had come on board.

In her remarks, NPOWA National President, Hajiya Saratu Goni, commended the Conservator-General for his support and leadership, and pledged the association’s full support to the affairs of the National Park Service.

“We stand for the welfare of the National Park family, conservation awareness, and empowerment of women and youths in the parks as well as the host communities,” she said.

During the visit, new members were sworn in as Secretary and Public Relations Officer to drive the association’s activities.
