PCRC Assures Free and Fair FCT Area Council Elections

Danjuma Amodu | January 29, 2026

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of a free and fair Area Council election scheduled for February 21, 2026.

Speaking at an interactive meeting on security and peaceful elections, PCRC National Chairman Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyi emphasized the committee’s collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police to ensure a crime-free election.

As part of its efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, PCRC has been engaging with traditional rulers and community leaders to promote peaceful coexistence and encourage residents to report suspicious activities.

The FCT Police Command has also set up a joint situation room to coordinate election security operations and deployed personnel to secure INEC facilities and polling units.

“We will work with INEC and the Nigeria Police to ensure the election is free and fair. No form of thuggery will be tolerated; it will be a crime-free election,” Olaniyi said. He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, stating that PCRC would support the police in maintaining peace and security during the elections.

FCT PCRC Chairman Dr. Rufus Ebegba encouraged eligible voters to participate peacefully in the elections, highlighting the importance of security for economic growth and national development.

“Security remains the foundation of economic growth, social stability, and national prosperity. Without peace and safety, meaningful development can not be sustained,” he said.

The PCRC’s efforts aim to ensure a safe and secure environment for citizens, and its commitment to promoting peaceful elections is part of its broader role in strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
