The Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) is designed to support more accountable and inclusive institutions to respond to Nigeria’s governance and climate change challenges. This is a governance programme, seeking to address the governance challenges that undermine development and perpetuate social exclusion in Nigeria.
Building a Climate-Resilient Future
Nigeria is taking bold steps towards a climate-resilient future through the Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), a 48-month program funded by the UK Government and managed by DAI Global. This initiative brings together specialist partners to drive meaningful change, strengthening governance and climate systems to promote inclusive growth and climate resilience.
Leveraging Experience for Impact
Building on over two decades of governance reform experience, PACE draws lessons from successful programmes like PERL, SPARC, SAVI, and SLGP, informing its approach to addressing Nigeria’s unique challenges. The program strengthens governance and climate systems, focusing on improving public financial management, integrating climate action, and supporting trade facilitation.
Empowering Communities
In Jigawa, PACE partners with the Women Environmental Programme to support women farmers through climate-resilient farming and organic fertilizer production. The program also developed a Guide to Accessing Climate Finance, assisting states in navigating 93 climate finance sources.
Scaling Up Impact
PACE operates in Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa, with federal and regional engagement across all 36 states, applying a Whole of Society approach to advance democratic systems and citizen influence. The Nigerian government recognizes PACE’s efforts, with stakeholders commending its practical approach and commitment to addressing climate change and governance challenges.
Stakeholder Endorsements
Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasizes the need for sustainable land use practices and climate-resilient development. Similarly, Mahmud Kambari, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, highlights the importance of conflict-sensitive approaches in adaptation planning.
As Nigeria navigates its development journey, PACE offers a beacon of hope for a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous future.
