NDLEA Raid in Bonny Island Ends in Tragedy as Officer Killed, Six Suspects Arrested

By Danjuma Amodu | February 10, 2026

A raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Rivers State’s Bonny Island has resulted in the death of one of its officers and the arrest of six suspects, including the leader of a notorious drug gang.

The operatives had swooped on the Ama Hausa enclave, a known hub for criminal activities, on February 6, 2026, recovering a cache of illicit substances, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. However, the operation turned violent when the suspects mobilized armed hoodlums to attack the NDLEA team, resulting in the death of Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid.

The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has commended the bravery of the officers involved and vowed to continue the fight against drug traffickers. “Any attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go without dire consequences,” he warned.

The suspects arrested include Genesis George Benson, the gang leader, ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

The Ama Hausa area in Bonny Island, Rivers State, has been a notorious hub for criminal activities, including drug trafficking.

The NDLEA had been monitoring the area and had identified it as a key location for drug-related activities. The raid was part of the agency’s efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and related crimes in the region. The area is known for its oil and gas activities, but it has also been plagued by issues of insecurity and criminality.
