A devastating fire outbreak has swept through Kano’s popular Singer Market, destroying properties worth over N8 billion and crippling more than 1,000 businesses. The inferno, described as one of the darkest moments in the market’s history, has left seven persons missing and hundreds of families devastated.
The Chairman of Singer Market, Junaid Zakari, disclosed that four residential buildings within the market area were razed, housing small-scale businesses and serving as shops and living quarters for traders. Also, goods, equipment, and valuables were completely burnt, wiping out years of investment.
This is not the first time Singer Market has been hit by a fire outbreak. Less than two weeks ago, another blaze destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market, prompting President Bola Tinubu to order a comprehensive investigation into the recurring incidents.
Traders, including Isa Abubakar and Musa Ibrahim, have lamented their losses, with Abubakar losing goods worth over N200 million and Ibrahim suffering losses exceeding N340 million.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the scene, calling for urgent provision of modern firefighting equipment, including air support.
