Tunji Disu was sworn in as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned citing family commitments. The ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, was attended by top government officials, including President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
Disu, a seasoned police officer with over three decades of experience, has vowed to prioritise professionalism, accountability, and community partnership in his tenure. “The era of impunity is over,” he declared, pledging to uphold human rights and root out corruption within the force.
A graduate of English Education from Lagos State University, Disu holds two master’s degrees and has attended numerous professional training courses. He has served in various capacities, including Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and has led several high-profile operations, including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.
Notably, Disu rebranded the RRS as “The Good Guys”, focusing on community engagement, crime prevention, and proactive policing. He also served as contingent commander for Nigeria’s first African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) in 2005, acting as Chief of Staff in Darfur. His achievements have earned him several awards, including “Best Anti-Crime Police Squad in West Africa” in 2016 and “Most Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief” in West and Central Africa in 2019.
Disu’s appointment has been welcomed by many, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who expressed confidence that he will meet Nigerians’ expectations for a competent, accountable, and trustworthy police force.

As Acting IGP, Disu faces significant challenges, including addressing police brutality, improving security, and reforming the force’s image. His experience and track record suggest he is well-equipped to tackle these issues and restore public trust in the police.
