Wonder kid, Dowman makes history as Arsenal take a huge step towards the Premier League title with a late win over Everton

By Danjuma Amodu | March 14, 2026

Arsenal’s 16-year-old sensation Max Dowman became the youngest scorer in Premier League history, netting a late winner against Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The teenager’s goal, a solo effort in stoppage time, sealed a 2-1 victory for the Gunners and extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

Dowman broke the record previously held by Everton’s James Vaughan, who scored at 16 years and 270 days in 2005.

Mikel Arteta has compared Dowman’s talent to Lionel Messi’s, and the young winger didn’t disappoint, providing the assist for Viktor Gyokeres’ 89th-minute goal and then scoring the winner himself.

Everton were left frustrated by Jordan Pickford’s error, which allowed Gyokeres to score. The Toffees had created chances, including a Dwight McNeil effort that hit the post, but ultimately came up short.

Arsenal’s win was a testament to their depth and resilience, with Dowman’s emergence adding another dimension to their attack.

They are now 10 points clear at the top of the table. Everton restrategise for their next match against Chelsea.

The match saw Arsenal create chances, but Everton’s resilience was evident. They may rue Pickford’s mistake, but their overall performance was solid.

Dowman’s emergence is a game-changer for Arsenal, and they will be hard to stop. Next up, Arsenal faces Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, while Everton hosts Chelsea.
