By Danjuma Amodu | March 18, 2026

President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in London for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The President’s aircraft touched down at 3:18pm at London Stansted Airport on Tuesday, where he was received by Mark Bevan, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, and Nigeria’s acting High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu.

During the visit, President Tinubu and the First Lady will be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle. The state visit is expected to explore new opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries, with Nigeria being one of Britain’s most important partners in Africa.

The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen economic cooperation, with trade worth more than £8 billion in the year to October. Nigerians in the UK are reacting to the visit, with some seeing it as an opportunity to strengthen ties and attract investment.

Key outcomes of the visit are expected to include a £746 million financing deal for upgrading Nigeria’s major ports, new agreements on trade, investment, defense, and culture, and strengthened security cooperation to combat terrorism and banditry.

The visit is seen as a significant diplomatic reset between Nigeria and the UK, with both countries seeking to expand their partnership.
