By Danjuma Amodu

Renowned for his two-decade career in broadcasting and high-profile public service enforcement, veteran journalist Ikharo Attah has been appointed Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.

The Federal Ministry of Education said the appointment, formalised in a letter dated 28 April 2026, reflects the Minister’s plan to strengthen public engagement and ensure clear, consistent communication of the sweeping reforms underway in Nigeria’s education sector.

The announcement was confirmed in a statement by Laure Lamina, Special Adviser on Strategy and Implementation. In his new role, Mr Attah will oversee the Minister’s media and communication agenda, with responsibilities including coordinating public communications, managing institutional messaging, supervising the Ministry’s social media and digital presence, and providing strategic counsel on crisis communications to protect its reputation.

Mr Attah brings more than 20 years of media experience to the post. He began his career at DBN Television before moving to Independent Television (ITV), where he currently serves as Manager of News and Current Affairs.

Beyond journalism, he is recognised for his work in public service and enforcement within the Federal Capital Territory. His previous roles include Chairman of the FCT Task Force on Traffic Decongestion in 2019, Chairman of the FCT Task Force on Enforcement of COVID-19 Protocols in 2020, and Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT Administration in 2021.

The Ministry said Mr Attah’s appointment is central to its aim of maintaining “consistency in messaging across all platforms” as it rolls out key educational initiatives.
