The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has set November 2026 and March 2028 as deadlines for the completion of key road reconstruction and expansion projects across the North-Central, following an inspection tour of federal road projects in the FCT and Nasarawa State over the weekend.
Umahi, who was accompanied by members of the National Assembly, expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the 43.65-kilometre Mararaba–Keffi Road project being handled by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Ltd.
He also commended Messrs. JRB Construction Company for its standard of work on the Full Emergency Rehabilitation of the Mararaba–Keffi (Abuja-Bound) Road, noting he was confident the project would be completed before the March 1, 2028 deadline. Ancillary works include installation of solar-powered street lighting.
“This is highly commendable. The quality of work is evident, and I encourage you to sustain this standard through to completion.”
Umahi reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ending the era of abandoned and substandard infrastructure projects, stressing that contractors must adhere strictly to approved specifications, contractual obligations, and ministry directives.
“If you encounter any difficulty, inform us immediately. The Federal Government remains committed to meeting its obligations, including timely payments. However, quality must never be compromised,” he said.
The Minister directed contractors to prioritise the completion of all outstanding sections before commencing additional asphalt works, noting that several projects nationwide had suffered setbacks due to unfinished stretches.
The inspection also covered the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road, Section II, handled by Messrs Infiouest International Ltd. Umahi said completion of outstanding works is scheduled for November 12, 2026.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Allwell Onyesoh, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, alongside Hon. Jeremiah Sa’idu of Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the renewed momentum in infrastructure development.
They described the ongoing road projects as strategic investments capable of stimulating economic growth, improving connectivity, facilitating trade and commerce, and enhancing national integration. They pledged continued oversight and support.
Federal Controller of Works, FCT, Engr. Mohammed Usman, praised the Minister’s hands-on leadership and consistent supervision, as well as contractors for maintaining quality standards and steady progress.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North Central Zone, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, lauded President Tinubu’s commitment to improving Nigerians’ welfare through sustained investments in critical infrastructure, agricultural empowerment, and other people-centred initiatives.
Managing Director of JRB Construction Company, Mr. Jamilu Ogunbola, said the company’s role in the Abuja–Keffi Road project demonstrates the growing capacity of indigenous construction firms to execute complex infrastructure projects in line with global standards.
The inspection tour highlights the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure timely delivery of critical road projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The Ministry said it remains committed to sustaining infrastructure development as a catalyst for transformation, national cohesion, and improved quality of life.
