The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has mourned the death of Mr. Felix Onigbinde, a photojournalist with the Nigerian Tribune newspaper.
Onigbinde reportedly fell into a coma last week and was admitted to Garki General Hospital, Abuja, where he later died.
The NUJ FCT Council, in a statement on Saturday by its Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, described him as a dedicated and award-winning photojournalist whose career reflected commitment to the gathering and dissemination of information in service of society.
He began his journalism career with Daily Trust newspaper before joining the Nigerian Tribune, where he worked until his death.
According to the Council, Onigbinde played a vital role in documenting events and telling stories through images, contributing significantly to the media’s mandate of informing the public.
The Council said his death was particularly heartbreaking, noting that his passing had created a painful void among colleagues, friends and the wider journalism community.
It extended heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN), his colleagues, friends and professional associates, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
The Council also commiserated with his immediate family, particularly his wife and two children.
Onigbinde, who hailed from Ife Modakeke in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State, will be remembered for his contribution to journalism and service to the public through his profession.
The NUJ FCT prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for comfort for his family and all those mourning his passing.
