The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Otukpo Multipurpose Dam in Benue State. Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, gave the assurance during an inspection of the project site at Otobi Akpa in Otukpo Local Government Area.
The inspection was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on sustainable water resource management. Utsev said the assessment aimed to identify projects requiring urgent intervention, including uncompleted dams and facilities facing structural or operational challenges.
The completion of the Otukpo Dam is expected to significantly improve water supply and sanitation, supporting the administration’s broader development agenda. The project will deliver a reservoir capacity of 130 million cubic metres, a 3.3-megawatt hydropower plant, potable water supply, irrigation for 2,000 hectares of farmland, and 13 kilometres of access roads.
The dam is also expected to create jobs and boost agriculture, power generation, and tourism in Benue State.
