Ukomu Igala Organization hails appointments of Igala/Bassa indigenes, urges accelerated delivery of roads and Ajaokuta Steel

The Ukomu Igala Organization has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance through the appointment of qualified Igala and Bassa sons and daughters into key positions in government.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the National Leader of the Ukomu Igala Organization, retired Major General James Ataguba, expressed appreciation on behalf of the organisation’s Board of Trustees, Executive Council and the entire Igala/Bassa people for the confidence reposed in members of the ethnic group.
Major General Ataguba particularly lauded the appointments of the Chief of Army Staff, the Minister of Steel Development, the Director-General of the National Population Commission, the Director-General of the National Boundary Commission, as well as other Igala professionals serving in various capacities.
He said the appointments reflected the President’s commitment to merit, national inclusion and strengthening public institutions through capable leadership.
The Ukomu Igala leader noted that the Igala and Bassa people have a long-standing tradition of patriotism, integrity and dedication to national service, expressing confidence that the appointees would justify the trust placed in them through exemplary leadership and commitment to the nation’s development.
The organisation also commended the Federal Government for the recent flag-off of the Rural Solar Electrification Project in parts of Igala/Bassa land, describing the initiative as a significant step towards improving access to clean energy, boosting rural livelihoods, stimulating local businesses and promoting inclusive economic growth.
While expressing gratitude to President Tinubu, Major General Ataguba appealed for the accelerated completion of critical infrastructure projects, including the Shintaku-Gboloko-Dekina-Anyingba Road, which he described as a strategic economic corridor linking major agricultural communities in Kogi East.
He also called for sustained federal attention to the completion and rehabilitation of the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene Road, Lokoja-Ganaja-Ajaokuta-Itobe Road, and road networks connecting Ibaji and Igala Mela/Odolu to the South-East.
According to him, the timely completion of the projects would enhance interstate commerce, strengthen agricultural value chains, improve mobility, reduce travel time and unlock the economic potential of the region.
The organisation further urged the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Project, describing it as critical to Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic transformation.
Major General Ataguba reaffirmed the commitment of the Igala/Bassa people to Nigeria’s unity, peace and development, assuring President Tinubu of their continued support for policies aimed at promoting national progress.
He also prayed for divine wisdom, strength and good health for the President as he continues to lead the country towards greater peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
