By Kizito Ozoemena | February 21, 2926

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election, describing it as “orderly, efficient, and peaceful”.

Amupitan made the remarks after visiting some polling units in the FCT, where he noted that the Biometric Voter Verification System (BVAS) was working effectively, accrediting voters in under five seconds. He also praised the large turnout of voters, saying it showed increased awareness and participation in the electoral process.

The INEC chairman also commended security personnel for maintaining order, saying there were about 30 security personnel present at one of the polling units he visited.

Regarding the 2027 general elections, Amupitan assured Nigerians that the BVAS would guarantee the integrity of the electoral process, saying “the BVAS works very well” and would ensure that only accredited voters could cast their ballots.

Amupitan also reported receiving positive feedback from polling units across Abuja, with the exception of Abaji, where a problem was quickly resolved after security deployment.

Amupitan assured of INEC’s commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible process, with results to be uploaded in real-time to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
