By Danjuma Amodu, February 8, 2026

The Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has called on stakeholders to adopt digital transformation strategies that enhance economic growth while protecting the environment in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 47th Kaduna International Trade Fair, Lawal emphasized the importance of leveraging digital tools and innovations to boost productivity, reduce operational costs, and expand market access for industries, farmers, and traders.

The Minister highlighted the need for sustainable digital transformation, citing the role of technology in promoting eco-friendly industries, climate-smart agriculture, and environmental monitoring.

He commended the theme of the 2026 fair, “Enhancing Efficiency in Industry, Agriculture, and Commerce through Digital Transformation,” and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that combine economic development with environmental stewardship.

Lawal praised the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) for organizing the event and wished participants a successful fair.

The Minister’s call for sustainable digital transformation comes as Nigeria seeks to diversify its economy and achieve its development goals. The 47th Kaduna International Trade Fair provides a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The event has been a key fixture on the Nigerian business calendar for over four decades, attracting exhibitors, buyers, and investors from across the globe. This year’s fair is expected to feature exhibitions, seminars, and networking opportunities focused on themes such as digital transformation, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy.

The Kaduna State Government has invested heavily in infrastructure development, making the state an attractive destination for investment and business growth. The trade fair is seen as an opportunity to showcase the state’s potential and attract new investments.

The Minister’s message was echoed by other speakers at the event, who emphasized the need for sustainable development and environmental protection. President, KADCCIMA, Alh. Farouk Suleiman, and National President, NACCIMA, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, lauded the Minister for his commitment to the development of Kaduna State.

“The presence of the Minister, who is from this state, shows the Government’s support and highlights the Minister’s sincerity of purpose for the growth of the state,” they said.

The Director of Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Environment, Ibrahim Haruna, was part of the Minister’s team at the 47th edition of the trade fair.

The fair is expected to conclude with a communiqué outlining recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders.
