The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako, has ordered the renovation of an abandoned National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Dr Salako made an unscheduled visit to the facility following a social media video highlighting its poor state. He expressed concern over the prolonged abandonment and its impact on healthcare service delivery in the state.
The minister gave the contractor one-month ultimatum to complete the necessary repairs, emphasizing the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing critical health infrastructure. “No public health asset should be left to waste,” Dr Salako said, assuring stakeholders that the facility would be put to productive use to enhance healthcare access for Nigerians.
The facility’s renovation is expected to improve NHIA’s presence in Ogun State, supporting the government’s efforts to expand healthcare coverage.
The minister’s action underscores the administration’s focus on addressing healthcare infrastructure gaps in Nigeria.
