Nigeria Deepens South-South Ties as NTAC Boss Leads Delegation to Trinidad and Tobago

The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has led a high-level delegation to Trinidad and Tobago in a move to deepen South-South Cooperation and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic ties with Caribbean nations.

The visit was undertaken on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and featured engagements with officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Port of Spain, as well as a bilateral meeting hosted by the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, Honourable Sean Sobers, M.P.

This was disclosed by Ojo A. Olubunmi, anipr, Head, Information & Public Relations, Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discussions during the meeting centred on enhancing bilateral relations, with emphasis on technical cooperation, capacity building, and the deployment of skilled Nigerian professionals under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme.

Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to expand its technical assistance programmes, noting that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of advancing sustainable development across the Global South.

In his response, Honourable Sean Sobers, M.P., committed to enhancing technical cooperation between the two countries and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria’s continued support to Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries through technical assistance.

The Nigerian delegation included the Director of Programmes, Ambassador Bello Jaye; the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mrs Dankaro Angye Ashumate; and the Head of Chancery, Mrs Linda Hills.

The engagement underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships and promoting sustainable development through technical cooperation with nations of the Global South.
