The political atmosphere in Ofu Local Government has intensified following the launch of a new economic empowerment programme aimed at equipping young people with entrepreneurial skills and fostering sustainable grassroots development.
Speaking to a large gathering of youths in Ejule on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Musa Muhammed Lawal, outlined a policy agenda focused on skills acquisition and human capital development. He described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to boost productivity, reduce unemployment and transform Ofu’s young people into active contributors to local growth.
The Chairman’s plan was met with immediate backing from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ofu Chapter.
Its chairman, Comrade Sadam Agbodu, pledged the council’s full support and said the initiative marked a turning point in the political and economic direction of the area.
Hon. Lawal expressed appreciation to the people of Ofu for their continued trust and said their support would underpin his administration’s efforts to deliver tangible democratic dividends.
He also acknowledged the role of the Kogi State Government, commending Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo and Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Oyibo for their leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ofu residents. He said the cooperation between state and local government was key to accelerating development.
Looking ahead, the Chairman reaffirmed plans for aggressive infrastructure investment and policies to support small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those run by women. He said the measures form part of a wider agenda to promote inclusivity, stimulate local commerce and improve living standards across the local government.
“This is governance in action and leadership with vision,” he said, describing the programme as the start of a new chapter for Ofu where opportunity is matched with empowerment.
