The DARES Programme, supported by the Nigeria Electrification Project, has achieved significant milestones in deploying renewable energy infrastructure across multiple regions of Nigeria. DARWAY Coast Nigeria Limited has successfully installed renewable energy systems in four communities, providing dependable energy access to previously underserved areas.
The installations include:
Utagbuno, Delta State – 417.6kWp
Akeddei, Bayelsa State – 195.4kWp
Lekwesi, Abia State – 150.8kWp
Amaeze, Ebonyi State – 1MWp
These deployments represent a significant step towards bridging Nigeria’s electricity access gap, with communities transitioning from limited or unreliable supply to structured, dependable renewable energy systems. The installations are expected to benefit productive users, small businesses, schools, and health facilities, unlocking new opportunities for local economies.
The geographic spread of the installations across South-South and South-East regions demonstrates a deliberate and inclusive approach to closing the electricity access gap. The DARES Programme is scaling decentralized solutions that are technically sound, commercially viable, and designed for long-term sustainability.
“Bridging Nigeria’s electricity access gap requires consistency, strong private sector participation, and disciplined execution. We are seeing all three come together in these deployments,” said a representative of DARWAY Coast Nigeria Limited.
“We remain focused on expanding access, strengthening impact, and ensuring that renewable energy continues to serve as a catalyst for economic and social transformation across underserved communities.” He added.
The DARES Programme is a Nigerian government initiative aimed at increasing access to electricity through decentralized renewable energy solutions.
It is supported by the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), which is a World Bank-funded project implemented by the Federal Ministry of Power. The programme focuses on promoting private sector participation in the development of mini-grids and solar home systems to improve energy access in rural and underserved areas.
