Salihu Aminu Usman has assumed duty as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, calling for mutual collaboration among staff, agencies, and stakeholders to drive the nation’s environmental development agenda.
Usman emphasized that the ministry can not operate in isolation and urged collective effort and teamwork to achieve greater impact. He assured staff of his commitment to building on the solid foundations laid by his predecessor, focusing on staff development, promoting professionalism, and prioritizing staff welfare.
Outgoing Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Adam Kambari, described the ministry as blessed with capable and experienced personnel, urging them to support Usman. Kambari lauded the staff for their support during his tenure, describing them as competent, reliable, and hardworking.
Kambari welcomed Usman, noting his high pedigree and amiable character, and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the ministry.
He thanked the Honourable Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, for his leadership and guidance, describing him as a great leader and a mentor.
In her vote of thanks, Director, Special Duties, Mrs. Adenopo, on behalf of the ministry’s staff and management, expressed gratitude to Kambari for his mentorship and leadership and welcomed Usman to the ministry. She pledged the staff’s full cooperation and dedication to his leadership, assuring him they would work together to achieve greater heights.
Adenopo described Kambari’s tenure as marked by significant milestones, high professionalism, and a caring attitude, and thanked him for laying a solid foundation for the ministry.
“You have laid a solid foundation and achieved significant milestones that brought the Ministry into the limelight. Your professionalism and caring attitude permeates the departments and agencies of the ministry. Thank you for being more than a boss,” she remarked.
The ministry’s management and staff welcomed Usman, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the ministry to greater heights. Adenopo assured Usman of the ministry’s readiness and eagerness to continue the progressive journey with him, stating:
“We are confident you will build upon the existing successes, work together as a family as you guide us to greater heights.”
Usman’s appointment is seen as a significant development in the ministry’s efforts to promote environmental sustainability and development in Nigeria.
