Event to bring together Security Chiefs, diplomats and scholars in Abuja on 21 May 2026
Vice President Kashim Shettima will unveil a new book documenting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East at a public presentation in Abuja on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
The book, Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, is authored by retired Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and ex-Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
The presentation will be held at the National Defence College, Abuja, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Shettima is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler. He will be joined by governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, retired military chiefs, diplomats and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s security sector.
Organisers said the two-volume publication draws on Yusuf’s operational experience and offers strategic insights and lessons from years of military campaigns against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the North-East and the wider Lake Chad Basin.
They added that the work is expected to enrich national security discourse and contribute to military scholarship, defence studies and the historical record of Nigeria’s insurgency war.
The books will be reviewed by Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, who will examine their strategic, historical and policy implications for Nigeria’s security sector.

Organisers said the event will also stimulate broader discussion on counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms and the evolving military strategies required to address asymmetric threats in Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.
Media organisations and defence correspondents have been invited to provide extensive coverage, with organisers describing the launch as significant to ongoing national security debates and to the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency history.
