Hon. Silas Akoji, PDP stalwart and the party’s candidate for Ofu 1 Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has congratulated Hon. David Idris Zacharias on his emergence as the PDP candidate for Idah Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Idah Federal Constituency comprises Idah, Ibaji, Igalamela-Odolu and Ofu LGAs.
Zacharias polled 388 votes to clinch the ticket at a primary conducted across the four LGAs following the voluntary withdrawal of Hon. Paul Ukwenya. Returning Officer Emeje Aruwa announced the result at the Kogi PDP Secretariat in Lokoja, while Kogi PDP Chairman Hon. Mohammed Sanni Gambo described the exercise as “constitutional and transparent.” Officials of INEC, the Nigeria Police, NSCDC and DSS monitored the process.
In a statement on Thursday, Akoji described the victory as a clear endorsement by delegates and a reflection of Zacharias’ years of service and acceptance by the people of Kogi East. He commended the state PDP leadership for conducting a free and peaceful primary.

“When the process is credible, the people’s will prevails. This primary proves that PDP remains the only truly people-centred party in Nigeria,” Akoji said.
He described Zacharias’ return to the PDP as a “homecoming of purpose,” noting that the party was fielding a two-term federal lawmaker with the capacity to deliver for the constituency.
Akoji stressed that Idah Federal Constituency is familiar ground for Zacharias.
“He knows the riverine wards of Ibaji, the border communities of Ofu, the political blocs of Igalamela-Odolu, and the traditional stool of Idah. That knowledge is political capital in 2027,” he said.
The Ofu 1 candidate said the outcome signals PDP’s resilience and readiness to reclaim legislative seats across Kogi State in 2027, and pledged to work with the party leadership to mobilize at the grassroots.
“The PDP is back on its feet in Kogi East. With tested hands like yours on the ticket, we are marching forward with one voice and one vision: POWER TO THE PEOPLE,” he added.
He assured Zacharias of the full support of Ofu 1 Constituency and the entire PDP family in Kogi State, and called for unity and reconciliation ahead of the general elections.
