The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in the South-East, has commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support for women in the region and pledged continued solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Deputy National President of ALGON and Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, Engineer Toni Adikibe, gave the assurance in a statement on behalf of the 27 Local Government Chairmen in the state and local government leadership across the South-East.
Engineer Adikibe described the First Lady’s donation of empowerment items worth ₦250 million to 2,500 women across the South-East as an investment in families, grassroots economies and community development.
He said Imo State received the largest single allocation, adding that empowering women would strengthen families and contribute to national development.
The ALGON Deputy National President also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his commitment to gender balance and inclusive governance, citing the appointment of a female Deputy Governor as evidence of his administration’s support for women.
Engineer Adikibe assured the First Lady that the local government councils would ensure the empowerment items translate into jobs, businesses and improved livelihoods for women across communities.
He said the local government leadership in Imo and the South-East remained aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and expressed confidence in the continuity of the APC-led administration.
The ALGON leader further said rural women and grassroots leaders across the South-East were prepared to support the consolidation of the Tinubu administration and the administration of Governor Uzodimma in Imo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
