NESREA DG Lauded Presidential CNG Initiative for Boosting Sustainability

By Danjuma Amodu | February 10, 2026

The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof. Innocent Barikor, has lauded the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) for its efforts to alleviate transportation challenges and enhance environmental sustainability in Nigeria.

The Pi-CNG, launched to promote CNG as a cleaner and more affordable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, has reduced transportation costs, with many vehicles converting to CNG.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Executive Chairman of Pi-CNG, Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed, Prof. Barikor highlighted the initiative’s positive environmental impact, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, helping Nigeria meet its Paris Agreement commitments.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership and the Pi-CNG management for implementing the programme.

NESREA and Pi-CNG have resolved to collaborate on awareness creation and electric vehicle battery tracking under the Extended Producer Responsibility Programme.
