By Danjuma Amodu | February 12, 2026

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has said its seafaring training for 100 Ogoni youths aligns with the Federal Government’s Blue Economy objectives, focusing on skills development and job creation in the maritime industry.

Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, HYPREP Project Coordinator, stated this at the close-out ceremony for the trainees at Charkin Maritime Academy, emphasizing that the training opens doors to alternative income sources and discourages oil theft and environmental degradation.

The trainees were urged to utilize their skills for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

The training is part of HYPREP’s sustainable livelihood initiatives, bringing the number of Ogoni youths trained in high-demand skills to 230.

HYPREP plans to train more youths in skills like Full-Stack Development, Cybersecurity, and Solar Panel Installation, reinforcing its commitment to human capacity development in Ogoni.
