Enviroment Ministry Presents 2026 Budget, Pledges Commitment to Sustainability

The Ministry of Environment’s 2026 budget came under scrutiny yesterday as the House Committee on Environment, led by Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, held a budget defense session with the ministry and its agencies, including the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN).

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Mahmud Adam Kambari, represented the Honourable Minister, Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, and delivered the opening remarks.

The Director-General of Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Zacharia B. Yaduma, Ph.D, accompanied by relevant senior officials of FRIN presented and defended FRIN’s proposed budget estimates for 2026, outlining strategic objectives, planned programs, projected expenditure and expected outcomes aligned with national development priorities.

The event was a critical component of the legislative process, demonstrating the Committee’s commitment to prudent resource management.

The Committee, led by Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba engaged FRIN’s management in a detailed discussion, seeking clarifications on various aspects of the budget proposal. The session was aimed at ensuring that the allocated funds are utilized effectively to drive the institute’s core mandate of forestry research and development.

FRIN’s Director-General, Zacharia B. Yaduma, Ph.D, assured the Committee of the institute’s commitment to delivering impactful research outcomes, enhancing Nigeria’s forestry sector, and contributing to national development goals.
