By Henry Oseremen Ihimekpen | February 20, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged voters, security agencies, and INEC officials to ensure orderly conduct during Saturday’s elections in FCT, Kano, and Rivers states.

He encouraged eligible voters to participate without fear, emphasizing democracy thrives in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance and mutual respect.

Tinubu warned against violence, provocative rhetoric, and intimidation, stressing that security personnel should safeguard lives and the electoral process.

He called on INEC to ensure timely accreditation, smooth voting, accurate collation, and prompt transmission of results, in line with the 2026 Electoral Act.

“The Federal Government will support institutions delivering free, fair, and credible elections,” Tinubu said. INEC is set to conduct elections in FCT’s six area councils and bye-elections in Rivers and Kano states.

Residents of FCT, Kano, and Rivers were commended for civic engagement, with confidence elections that will deepen Nigeria’s democracy.
