NiMet, NCAT Sign MoU to Strengthen Aviation, Meteorological Training

By Danjuma Amodu | February 24, 2026

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing professional training and capacity development in the aviation and meteorological sectors.

The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NiMet headquarters in Abuja today, bringing together two leading institutions in the country’s aviation and weather forecasting sectors.

Under the agreement, both institutions will collaborate in the use of training facilities, advisory support for aviation training programmes, and the delivery of specialised long- and short-term courses for NiMet personnel.

The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the use of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for ICAO-compliant aviation training.

The collaboration targets key professional areas including aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, and jointly organised programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.

Prof. Charles Anosike, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to continuous human capital development, noting that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnership remains critical to advancing operational excellence and supporting safe, efficient air navigation in Nigeria.

The partnership is expected to enhance the quality of service delivery across the aviation and meteorological sectors, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
