IGP Egbetokun’s Sacking: Sowore’s Claim Sparks Uncertainty

By Danjuma Amodu | February 24, 2026

Omoyele Sowore, 2023 AAC presidential candidate, claims Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has been removed, citing a replacement from FCIID Lagos. No official confirmation from the Presidency or NPF as of press time. Efforts to reach NPF’s Benjamin Hundeyin were unsuccessful.

Sowore had questioned Egbetokun’s tenure, citing mandatory retirement age (60). President Tinubu appointed him acting IGP in Oct 2023; the Federal Government later amended the Police Act, securing his position till 2027.

The claim raises questions about Egbetokun’s status and Nigeria’s police leadership. Official clarification is pending.
