Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in Anyigba has sounded the alarm over persistent erratic electricity supply, threatening to explore alternative energy options if the situation persists. Vice-Chancellor Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman described the unstable power supply as a “recurring challenge” affecting the university community.
Usman revealed that despite investing in a dedicated power line, the campus experiences severe power shortages, with electricity supply lasting only a few hours and sometimes disappearing for days. He attributed the issue to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) inefficiencies, stating the university deserves better service as one of AEDC’s highest-paying customers.
AEDC’s Anyigba Manager, Benjamin Monday, cited damaged power lines, falling trees, and low megawatt allocation as causes of disruptions. However, Usman warned that the university may collaborate with the Rural Electrification Agency to establish a mini-grid and deploy solar power solutions if AEDC fails to improve services.
The meeting between PAAU management and AEDC officials concluded with commitments to improve electricity supply to the university community.
