Omokri’s Mexico Posting: Tinubu Urged to Ensure Ambassador’s Safety

By Danjuma Amodu | February 9, 2026

A lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has expressed concerns about the safety of Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassador to Mexico, citing his past comments about drug cartels. Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was appointed as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico by President Bola Tinubu in January 2026.

In a video shared by Farotimi, he advised President Tinubu to provide Omokri with robust security measures, including bulletproof cars and vests, given the risks associated with his vocal stance against drug cartels.

Farotimi stated, “You sent Omokri to Mexico after he had been busy running his mouth about drug cartels. Oh well, he’d better make sure that he has a lot of bulletproof cars and vests in that place he’s gone to.”

He added that his comments were meant to highlight how Nigeria operates, saying, “But whenever I speak to these things, let us understand clearly that I speak to them so you’ll understand that a window has been opened into how Nigeria operates.”

Dele Farotimi is a Nigerian lawyer and social commentator. He is known for his outspoken views on Nigerian politics and governance. Farotimi often shares his opinions on social media and in public forums, making him a recognizable figure in Nigerian public discourse.
