Nigeria Partners with Singapore’s ITEES to Boost Technical Education

By Danjuma Amodu | March 13, 2026

The Federal Ministry of Education has signed a partnership agreement with Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education Education Services (ITEES) to strengthen Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.

The agreement aims to enhance the quality of technical education in Nigeria and equip students with industry-relevant skills.

The collaboration will involve a Train-the-Trainer Programme to improve the pedagogical and assessment capacity of TVET instructors across Nigeria. Additionally, leadership training will be provided for principals and heads of departments in Singapore, and the Global Excellence Model for Skills Training (GEMSET) will be introduced to benchmark Nigerian institutions against international standards.

The partnership is part of efforts to reposition technical education as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and industrial development in Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Education believes that this initiative will support the country’s development goals and enhance the skills of Nigerian students.

The agreement was signed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Nigeria and ITEES in Singapore, following engagements initiated during the 2025 visit of the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, to Singapore. The partnership is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s technical education sector and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.

According to Folasade Boriowo, Director, Press and Public Relations, the collaboration is a significant step towards public-private collaboration in Nigeria’s education sector, particularly in TVET. The initiative highlights the country’s efforts to align its education system with global best practices and address the skills gap in the economy.
