The Management of Kaduna Polytechnic has launched an investigation into an incident where students were reportedly prevented from attending lectures over dress code violations at the College of Business and Management Studies. Viral videos showed students protesting the action, with one female student expressing frustration after being stopped from entering the school premises despite wearing modest clothing.
In the viral video, the affected student claimed she and others were initially allowed into the campus by security personnel, only to be turned away later. She argued that the enforcement was unreasonable, citing that some students were denied entry due to short sleeves or other minor issues. “I am fully covered, my trousers reach the ground. There is nothing wrong with what I’m wearing,” she said.
The polytechnic’s management acknowledged the incident, stating that the students’ outfits appeared “moderate and appropriate” and shouldn’t have been barred from lectures. The institution maintains a dress code policy but emphasizes that enforcement must follow approved guidelines. “The Dress Code Committee is mandated to enforce this policy in line with the established guidelines and regulations of the institution,” the statement said.
An investigation has been initiated to determine what transpired, and measures will be taken to resolve the matter fairly and prevent future occurrences.
The polytechnic urges students to channel concerns through official platforms rather than social media, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring students’ access to education.
