The National Parks Service (NPS) is mourning the loss of its first Conservation-General, Alhaji Lawan Marguba, who passed away on Saturday morning at the National Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.
Dr. Ibrahim Goni, the current NPS Conservation-General, expressed sadness over Marguba’s demise, describing him as a “pace setter” in the service.
Goni, represented by Inwond Fingesi, Assistant Conservator-General (AC-G), Head of Finance and Accounts Department in the Service at Marguba’s burial at the Gudu cemetery in Apo, Abuja, condoled with the family of the late CG.
Marguba served as NPS head from 1992 to 2005 and advocated for a holistic approach to conservation, emphasizing its research and economic value.
Marguba’s daughter, Ummi Bukar, expressed sadness over her father’s demise, describing her father as a “wonderful and protective person” who saw her through many hurdles of life, “I am going to miss him greatly.”She added that her father was passionate about nature conservation.
She said her father had some health challenges which led to a devastating stroke in 2017 which left him paralyzed for nine years until he passed away on Saturday morning,” Bulgar said.
