Youth in Politics unveils 2027 electoral strategy, targets 300,000 poll guards

By Danjuma Amodu

Nigeria Youths in Politics has unveiled its strategic mandate for the 2027 Nigeria Youth Electoral Engagement, setting a new framework for disciplined, accountable, and measurable youth participation in the country’s democratic process.

The President of Nigeria Youths in Politics, Hon. Blessing Oyefeso, FCIIM, CIPPON, announced the release of the document in Abuja, saying it is aimed at strengthening the institutional framework for youth-driven political participation nationwide.

FIVE PILLARS TO DRIVE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
Hon. Oyefeso explained that the mandate rests on five strategic pillars:

Electoral governance and ethical political engagement
Stakeholder engagement for nation building
Electoral accountability through the deployment of over 300,000 Electoral Guards across polling units in the federation
Security collaboration for peaceful elections
Youth mobilisation for political inclusion

She said the framework is designed to ensure discipline, coordination, accountability, and measurable impact in youth-driven political engagement across Nigeria.

NWC TENURE, REPORTING LINES DEFINED
According to the statement, the National Working Committee, NWC, will operate within a defined tenure that ends in August 2027 after the general elections. The NWC must submit periodic reports on its activities in line with the organisation’s constitutional provisions to ensure transparency and performance.

The NWC structure includes the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Deputy Zonal Chairmen, Secretary, Legal Affairs, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary, zonal and state structures, and key directorates. These are the Directorate of Electoral Affairs and Monitoring, Partnership and Stakeholders Engagement, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Student Engagement and Campus Affairs.

“This framework reflects a shift toward structured, disciplined, and accountable youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of 2027,” Hon. Oyefeso said.

INAUGURATION SET FOR DEMOCRACY DAY CONFERENCE
The NWC is expected to be inaugurated at the Democracy Day Conference scheduled for June 10, 2026, at the FCT, Abuja. The theme is: “The Time Is Now: Youth Building a Sustainable Democracy.”

The conference will bring together past leaders, current administration officials, delegates from youth organisations and student unions, and civil society organisation executives.

Nigeria Youths in Politics is a youth-led platform focused on deepening political participation and electoral integrity among young Nigerians. With over 60 percent of Nigeria’s population under 30, youth blocs have become decisive in voter turnout and election outcomes since the 2015 and 2023 general elections.

The organisation’s 2027 plan marks one of the largest coordinated youth electoral monitoring efforts announced so far, with the proposed 300,000 Electoral Guards intended to serve as non-partisan observers across all polling units in the federation.
