Adikibe calls for grassroots commitment to peace, protection of vulnerable Nigerians during Sallah festivities
The Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, Engineer Ikenna Toni Adikibe, has felicitated Muslim faithful across the 774 Local Government Areas and Area Councils of Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Adha 1447 AH.
In a Sallah message, Engineer Adikibe described Eid-el-Adha as a sacred festival that embodies mercy, sacrifice, obedience and total submission to the will of Allah, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.
He said the celebration serves as a timeless reminder that true devotion is measured by one’s willingness to make sacrifices in obedience to God, while urging Muslims to embrace the values of compassion, unity and reverence for the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The ALGON Deputy National President noted that the call of Allahu Akbar resonates across the country, from Sokoto to Lagos, Maiduguri to Port Harcourt, and Imo to Zamfara, uniting Muslims under one faith and reinforcing the pillars of Islam.
Engineer Adikibe stressed that the principles of Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj remain vital instruments for nurturing discipline, strengthening families and fostering peaceful coexistence among communities irrespective of ethnic, cultural or geographical differences.
He also underscored the importance of security and social support during the festive period, especially for millions of Nigerians in rural communities.
The Oru West Council Chairman called on local government chairmen, traditional rulers and security agencies to work closely in safeguarding lives and property through intelligence gathering, coordinated patrols and effective community engagement.
According to him, stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies would ensure safer roads, protected places of worship, thriving markets and a more joyful celebration for all.
Engineer Adikibe further urged Nigerians to allow the spirit of sacrifice and tolerance associated with Eid-el-Adha to extend beyond the festivities into their daily interactions and collective efforts towards national development.
He prayed for Allah to accept the prayers, sacrifices and good deeds of the faithful and wished Muslims across the country a peaceful and rewarding Eid-el-Adha celebration.
