Newsworth | Danjuma Amodu | January 13, 2026

The Delta State Police Command announced on Tuesday that its operatives thwarted a planned kidnapping in Upper Agbarho, recovering one FNC rifle loaded with a live round and one pump-action shotgun with 32 live cartridges, marking a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state.

This was disclosed via the X handle of Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, who stated that acting on credible intelligence indicating six suspected kidnappers were lurking near a bush path in Upper Agbarho, officers from the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, teamed up with local vigilantes late Sunday night (2135hrs on Jan 11, 2026) to raid a hideout inside an unfinished building.

“The suspects opened fire upon spotting our men, but our operatives responded with superior firepower,” Edafe said.
“The criminals fled with injuries, abandoning their weapons and other incriminating items.”

Recovered exhibits include one (1) FNC rifle with one (1) round of live ammunition and one (1) pump-action gun loaded with thirty-two (32) rounds of live cartridges.

All items have been secured, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police CP Aina Adesola praised the CP-SAT team for their bravery and intelligence driven approach, emphasising that Delta State remains “hostile to all forms of criminality.”

This operation sends a clear message, “we will not tolerate kidnapping, armed robbery, or any violent crime in Delta,” Adesola said.

The command urges residents to continue reporting suspicious activities and to cooperate with ongoing investigations.
