De Norsemen Kclub International, DNKI, has congratulated Nigerian workers on the 2026 International Workers’ Day, commending their resilience and contributions to national development.
In a statement on Thursday, DNKI President, Chief Oliver Ityohegh, described the occasion as significant, noting that it provides an opportunity to join millions of Nigerians and the global labour community in recognising the dedication of workers across all sectors despite prevailing economic challenges.
The statement noted that the 2026 Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Decent Work and Living Wages in a Challenging Economy,” highlights the urgent need to prioritise workers’ welfare amid rising inflation, economic instability and declining purchasing power.
According to Chief Ityohegh, Nigerian workers remain the backbone of economic activity, demonstrating commitment and patriotism even under difficult conditions. He stressed that workers must be valued, empowered and adequately rewarded for their contributions.
The organisation called on the Federal Government, state governments and private sector employers to take concrete steps to improve workers’ welfare. These include a comprehensive review of wages to reflect current economic realities, prompt payment of outstanding allowances and entitlements, and improved working conditions in line with global best practices.
DNKI also advocated the institutionalisation of fair remuneration policies to protect workers from exploitation and ensure equity in compensation.
The group emphasised that sustainable national growth cannot be achieved without a motivated and fairly treated workforce, describing workers as the driving force of the economy and the nation’s most valuable asset.
It further called for efforts to tackle corruption and inefficiencies within labour and administrative systems, stressing that transparency and accountability are critical to safeguarding resources meant for workers’ welfare.
Reaffirming its commitment to social justice and national development, DNKI pledged continued advocacy for workers’ rights and collaboration with stakeholders to promote reforms that enhance productivity and living standards.
The organisation also urged workers to remain law-abiding, united and steadfast in their pursuit of better conditions, while continuing to contribute to national progress.
DNKI commended the courage, sacrifice and resilience of Nigerian workers, noting that their role in shaping the nation’s future remains indispensable.
