The Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) is set to launch its inaugural Excellence Awards, recognising outstanding public enterprise governance among Federal Government-owned and linked enterprises.
The award, scheduled for the second quarter of this year, underscores MOFI’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across the sector.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, unveiled the award in December 2025, saying it aims to deepen the culture of good corporate governance, transparency, and accountability in the public sector.
An independent technical panel has been inaugurated to select eligible entities, assessing them against stringent criteria including regulatory compliance, Board effectiveness, and sectoral impact.
The panel comprises experts from institutions such as the Financial Reporting Council, the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Directors.
MOFI’s Managing Director, Dr Amstrong Takang, said the initiative follows the launch of the MOFI Corporate Governance Scorecard, part of the ministry’s reform agenda to recognise outstanding performance and redefine governance as a strategic asset.
The Scorecard evaluates entities on key pillars, including board effectiveness, risk management, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.
“The MOFI Excellence Awards mark a structural shift in how Nigeria manages public enterprise, transparency is mandated, compliance is measured, and institutional outcomes remain the ultimate measure of fiscal discipline,”Takang said.
